Another earthquake strikes Novosibirsk Oblast
Second quake in two weeks shakes region
No serious damage or injuries reported
A second earthquake has struck Novosibirsk Oblast in two weeks, authorities said Tuesday.
The 5.3-magnitude quake hit about 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of Novosibirsk, the region's capital, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles), according to the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Geophysics.
There were no immediate reports of serious damage or injuries.
The quake comes just two weeks after a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck the same region, causing some damage to buildings and infrastructure.
Novosibirsk Oblast is located in southern Siberia, and is known for its seismic activity.
According to the Institute of Geophysics, the region has experienced more than 100 earthquakes with a magnitude of 4.0 or greater since 1900.
The largest earthquake in the region's history was a 7.3-magnitude quake that struck in 1964.
