ATP Tokyo: Hurkacz, Nishioka Advance to Quarterfinals, Wawrinka Falls

Hurkacz Rolls Past Monteiro

Hubert Hurkacz, the No. 6 seed, cruised into the quarterfinals of the ATP Tokyo Open with a dominant 6-3, 6-2 victory over Thiago Monteiro on Wednesday. Hurkacz fired seven aces and broke Monteiro's serve four times to advance in just over an hour. He will next face Soonwoo Kwon, who upset Denis Shapovalov in the first round.

Nishioka Edges Past Rinderknech

Yoshihito Nishioka, the hometown favorite, rallied from a set down to defeat Arthur Rinderknech 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1. Nishioka saved two set points in the second set tiebreak and dominated the decider to reach his first quarterfinal since the Atlanta Open in July. He will now face either Miomir Kecmanovic or Pedro Martinez.

Wawrinka's Comeback Stalled by Bautista Agut

Stan Wawrinka's hopes of a deep run in Tokyo were dashed as Roberto Bautista Agut defeated the Swiss veteran 6-3, 6-4. Wawrinka, who is making his return from a long-term foot injury, struggled to keep up with Bautista Agut's consistent baseline play. The Spaniard broke Wawrinka's serve three times and saved all five break points he faced. Bautista Agut will next face the winner of the match between Kei Nishikori and Dan Evans.
