ATP Tokyo: Medvedev Through to the Quarterfinals, Nishioka Upset by Griekspoor
Medvedev Cruises to Quarterfinals
World No. 4 Daniil Medvedev made light work of Miomir Kecmanovic in the Round of 16 at the ATP Tokyo Open on Wednesday. The Russian star fired 12 aces and won 71% of his first serve points to secure a comfortable 6-4, 6-2 victory.
Medvedev will now face either Oscar Otte or Christopher O'Connell in the quarterfinals.
Nishioka's Title Defense Ends
Hometown favorite Yoshihito Nishioka's title defense at the ATP Tokyo Open came to an abrupt end in the second round. The Japanese No. 1 was stunned by Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands, 6-3, 6-4.
Griekspoor, ranked 48th in the world, dominated with his powerful serve and aggressive groundstrokes. He broke Nishioka's serve three times and saved all four break points he faced.
