ATP Tokyo: Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe Advance to Quarterfinals

Fritz Continues Impressive Form, Tiafoe Upsets Top Seed

Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe continued their impressive runs at the ATP Tokyo Open on Thursday, reaching the quarterfinals with straight-set victories.

Fritz, seeded fourth, eased past Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-2 in just 62 minutes. The American has now won his last eight matches, including victories over Rafael Nadal and Cameron Norrie at the Indian Wells Masters.

Tiafoe, unseeded, upset top seed Casper Ruud 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals in Tokyo for the first time. The American broke Ruud's serve three times in the match and saved all seven break points he faced.

Fritz will face Kwon Soon-woo in the quarterfinals, while Tiafoe will play Miomir Kecmanovic. The semifinals are set to be played on Friday, with the final scheduled for Saturday.

Other Quarterfinalists

In other quarterfinal action, Alexander Bublik upset fifth seed Nick Kyrgios 6-3, 6-4, and Denis Shapovalov defeated eighth seed Tommy Paul 6-4, 7-5.
