Dutch club goalkeeper scores epic goal while lying on the ground
Incredible scenes as shot-stopper finds net from own half
Goalkeeper Etienne Vaessen has scored an extraordinary goal while lying on the ground for Dutch second-tier side MVV Maastricht.
The remarkable incident occurred during a match against NAC Breda on Friday, with the score level at 1-1 in the dying minutes.
With MVV pushing for a winner, Vaessen launched a long free-kick from inside his own half.
The ball soared towards the NAC goal and, with the NAC goalkeeper off his line, bounced over his head and into the net.
The goal sparked wild celebrations from the MVV players and fans, and Vaessen was mobbed by his teammates.
It is believed to be the first time a goalkeeper has scored a goal from inside their own half while lying on the ground.
Vaessen's goal has been hailed as one of the greatest ever scored by a goalkeeper.
Speaking after the match, Vaessen said he was "overwhelmed" by the reaction to his goal.
"I just tried to hit the ball as hard as I could," he said. "I never expected it to go in."
MVV coach Maurice Verberne said Vaessen's goal was "a moment of magic".
"It was an incredible goal," he said. "I've never seen anything like it before."
NAC goalkeeper Roy Kortsmit said he was "gutted" to concede the goal.
"I was off my line trying to clear the ball," he said. "But it bounced over my head and went in. It was a great goal, but I'm very disappointed to have conceded it."
MVV's win moved them up to fifth in the Dutch second tier, while NAC remain in 12th place.
