FC Rostov Defeats FC Dynamo Moscow to Advance in the Russian Cup
Rostov-on-Don, Russia - FC Rostov defeated FC Dynamo Moscow 2-1 on Wednesday in the Russian Cup Round of 16. With the win, Rostov advances to the quarterfinals of the competition.
Rostov took the lead in the 18th minute when Aleksandr Selyava scored. Dynamo equalized in the 35th minute with a goal from Fedor Smolov. Rostov regained the lead in the 72nd minute however, when Nikolai Komlichenko scored the game-winning goal.
The win was Rostov's second over Dynamo in the space of a week. Rostov had also defeated Dynamo 2-1 in the Russian Premier League on March 5.
Rostov Continues Good Form Under New Manager
The win over Dynamo was Rostov's fourth in a row in all competitions. The team has now won six of its last seven matches under new manager Dmitri Kirichenko.
Kirichenko took over as Rostov manager in February following the dismissal of Valeri Karpin. Rostov was 12th in the Russian Premier League at the time, but the team has since climbed a few spots to 10th.
Dynamo Struggles to Match Impressive Start
The loss to Rostov was Dynamo's third in a row in all competitions. The team has now won just one of its last five matches.
Dynamo started the season strongly, winning five of its first six matches. However, the team has struggled for form in recent weeks and is now eighth in the Russian Premier League.

Rostov will next face FC Akhmat Grozny in the Russian Premier League on Sunday. Dynamo will next face FC Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier League on Saturday.
