Ferrer: What happens in Malaga will not change Rafa's life, career
However, I want him to leave in a good flavor
"I love Rafa very much," said the former player.
Former tennis player David Ferrer spoke about the farewell of his friend and compatriot Rafael Nadal from the Davis Cup. The man from Jávea believes that it is a tough decision for Rafa, but added that he is very happy for the career he has had with the Spanish National Team.
"It is a difficult decision for him. He has been many years in the National Team and has played many ties," said Ferrer, who highlighted Nadal's "exemplary" behavior during his time with the team.
"What happens in Malaga will not change his life or his career, but I want him to leave in a good flavor and that the team is seen well," said the former number three in the world.
"I love Rafa very much. He is a very good friend of mine and he is a great person and a great player and I will always want the best for him."
Nadal announced on Tuesday that he will retire from international tennis after the Davis Cup Finals in Malaga in November.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion has been a key member of the Spanish Davis Cup team for many years, helping the country win five titles.
Nadal's retirement from the Davis Cup will be a big loss for the team, but Ferrer believes that Spain has a bright future in the competition.
"We have a great team with young players who are very talented," said Ferrer. "I am sure that they can continue to achieve great things."
