Alexandria shocks Moorhead with 99-yard game-winner
Alexandria pulled off one of the most improbable finishes in recent Minnesota high school football history Friday night.
Trailing Moorhead 20-14 with 1:35 to play, Alexandria quarterback Jake Anderson connected with receiver Kobe Terveer on a short pass over the middle. Terveer then outraced the Moorhead defense 99 yards for the game-winning touchdown.
Moorhead entered the game ranked No. 1 in Class 5A, while Alexandria was unranked. The Cardinals improved to 7-3, while the Spuds fell to 8-2.
Moorhead's Gavin Nitzke throws for 5 touchdowns
Moorhead quarterback Gavin Nitzke had a big game in the loss to Alexandria, throwing for 322 yards and five touchdowns.
Nitzke connected with receiver Brody Mohr twice for touchdowns, and also found receivers Blake Krabbenhoft, Sam Kittelson and Evan Holm for scores.
Perham's Anthony Nelson rushes for 200 yards, 3 touchdowns
Perham running back Anthony Nelson had a big game in the Yellowjackets' 42-7 win over St. Cloud Apollo.
Nelson rushed for 200 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. He also caught a pass for 25 yards.
Perham improved to 9-1, while Apollo fell to 6-4.
