What is the history of International Men's Day?The idea for International Men's Day was first proposed in 1992 by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a historian and lecturer from Trinidad and Tobago. Teelucksingh believed that there was a need for a day to recognize the positive contributions of men to society, as well as to raise awareness of the issues facing men and boys.
The first International Men's Day was celebrated in 1999, and has been celebrated annually on November 19 since then. In 2009, the United Nations recognized International Men's Day as an official international holiday.
