"It's a lack of respect for others": Real Madrid's boycott criticized by Ukrainian Zinchenko's partner
Zinchenko's partner hits out at Real Madrid for World Cup boycott
Vlada Sedan, the partner of Manchester City and Ukraine international Oleksandr Zinchenko, has criticized Real Madrid for their decision to boycott FIFA's The Best awards ceremony in protest at the governing body's decision to hold the 2024 ceremony in Russia.
Real Madrid's boycott criticized as disrespectful
Sedan took to social media to express her disappointment at Real Madrid's decision, saying: "It's a lack of respect for others." She added: "The decision to hold the ceremony in Russia is wrong, but boycotting the event is not the answer. It's important to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine, but this is not the way to do it."
Real Madrid are one of a number of clubs who have announced they will not be attending the ceremony in Moscow, with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City also confirming their absence.
FIFA has defended its decision to hold the ceremony in Russia, saying that it is a "neutral venue" and that the event will be "a celebration of football." However, the decision has been met with widespread criticism, with many people arguing that it is wrong to hold the event in a country that is currently waging war on Ukraine.
Sedan's comments echo the views of many people who believe that Real Madrid's boycott is a misguided attempt to show solidarity with Ukraine. They argue that the club should instead be using its platform to speak out against the war and to call for an end to the violence.
