LA Galaxy Thrash Colorado in First Round of MLS Playoffs
Galaxy Dominate from Start to Finish
The LA Galaxy took control of their MLS playoff match against the Colorado Rapids from the opening whistle, dominating possession and creating numerous scoring chances. Their efforts were rewarded in the 20th minute when Javier Hernandez found the back of the net, giving the Galaxy an early lead.
The lead grew to 2-0 just before halftime when Dejan Joveljic converted a penalty kick. The Galaxy continued their onslaught in the second half, with Hernandez completing his brace in the 55th minute. Samuel Grandsir added a fourth goal in the 70th minute, before Efrain Alvarez put the finishing touches on the rout with a goal in the 85th minute.
Rapids Fail to Recover from Early Deficit
The Rapids were unable to recover from the Galaxy's early goals and struggled to create any meaningful chances of their own. The loss marked the end of a disappointing season for Colorado, who finished 11th in the Western Conference.
The Galaxy, meanwhile, will advance to the second round of the playoffs, where they will face either FC Dallas or Minnesota United FC.
Hernandez Leads the Way for Galaxy
Javier Hernandez was the star of the show for the Galaxy, scoring two goals and assisting on another. The Mexican striker has been in excellent form all season, and his performance against Colorado was further proof of his importance to the team.
The Galaxy will need Hernandez to continue his hot streak if they want to make a deep run in the playoffs.
Galaxy's Defense Shines
In addition to their offensive prowess, the Galaxy also put in a strong defensive performance against Colorado. The Rapids were limited to just two shots on target, and goalkeeper Jonathan Klinsmann made a number of key saves to preserve the shutout.
The Galaxy's defense will be tested in the next round of the playoffs, but they have shown that they are capable of playing at a high level.
