Legends of Spartak and Dynamo to Play Match in Memory of Fyodor Cherenkov
Moscow, Russia - August 15, 2023
On September 23, 2023, at the VTB Arena in Moscow, a charity football match will be held between the legendary players of Spartak Moscow and Dynamo Moscow in honor of the memory of the outstanding midfielder Fyodor Cherenkov, who died in October 2014.
Fyodor Cherenkov is a воспитанник of the Spartak football school and one of the most titled players in the history of the red-and-whites. Cherenkov played for Spartak from 1977 to 1990 and became a five-time champion of the USSR, a three-time USSR Cup winner, and the winner of the 1979 UEFA Super Cup.
After leaving Spartak, Cherenkov played for the French Red Star and the Austrian Rapid. In 1995, he returned to Russia and played for Dynamo until 2001. He won the Russian Cup with the blue and white.
In 1989, Fyodor Cherenkov was recognized as the best football player in the USSR. He was included in the list of 33 best football players in the USSR 11 times, and was also a member of the USSR national team, in which he played 21 matches and scored 12 goals.
After completing his playing career, Fyodor Cherenkov worked as a coach at Spartak and Dynamo. In 2009, he was awarded the Order of Merit for the Fatherland, IV degree.
The charity match in memory of Fyodor Cherenkov will feature the participation of such legendary players as Rinat Dasayev, Valery Karpin, Alexander Mostovoi, Andrei Tikhonov, Dmitry Alenichev, Sergei Yuran, Vladimir Beschastnykh, Sergei Kiriakov, Alexander Borodyuk, and Igor Dobrovolsky.
The match will be held on September 23, 2023, at the VTB Arena in Moscow. The beginning is at 19:00. All proceeds from the match will be donated to a charity fund to support children with cancer.
