Dynamo missed the chance to move into the top four of the Russian Premier League after losing at home to Rostov

Valeri Karpin's team came into the game on the back of an impressive 4-0 win over Arsenal Tula but were unable to extend their unbeaten run. They remain in fifth place, four points behind fourth-placed Krasnodar.

Rostov, meanwhile, moved up to 10th place with their second win in three games. They are now just two points behind Dynamo and will be hoping to continue their climb up the table in the coming weeks.

The match did not begin well for Dynamo as Rostov took the lead in the 23rd minute. Aleksandr Silyanov was brought down by Robert Bauer in the penalty area and Aleksandr Bukharov stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

Dynamo pushed for an equaliser but they were unable to create any clear-cut chances. Rostov goalkeeper Sergey Pesyakov was rarely troubled and he made a comfortable save from a long-range shot by Anton Zabolotny in the second half.

The closest Dynamo came to scoring was when Zabolotny's header hit the post in the 80th minute. Rostov held on for a well-deserved victory and Dynamo will need to improve their performance in the coming weeks if they want to challenge for a top-four finish.

Dynamo will travel to face Ural Yekaterinburg on Saturday, while Rostov will host Sochi on Sunday.
