Newcastle boss provides injury update ahead of Arsenal clash
Howe reveals fitness of key players
Newcastle United head coach Eddie Howe has provided an update on the fitness of his squad ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Arsenal.
The Magpies will be without long-term absentee Jonjo Shelvey, who is recovering from a hamstring injury. However, Howe has revealed that Allan Saint-Maximin, who missed last weekend's win over Fulham with a knock, is fit to return.
Saint-Maximin fit to return
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Howe said: "Allan Saint-Maximin is back in training and available for selection. He's a very important player for us, so it's great to have him back."
Howe also provided an update on the fitness of Callum Wilson, who was forced off in the second half of the Fulham game with a knock. Howe said: "Callum Wilson is a doubt for the Arsenal game. He has a slight knock, so we'll have to assess him further."
Trippier and Schar injury concerns eased
There were also positive updates on Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar, who both missed the Fulham game with injuries. Howe said: "Kieran Trippier is back in training and available for selection. Fabian Schar is also back in training, but he's not yet ready to start a game."
Newcastle will be looking to continue their good form when they host Arsenal on Saturday. The Magpies have won their last three Premier League games and are unbeaten in their last five.
