Orthodox Christians in Russia Adopt Children from War-Torn Eastern Ukraine
Abandoned children find new homes in Russian monasteries
Children scarred by conflict find solace and a sense of belonging in the Russian Orthodox Church
In the wake of the devastating conflict in eastern Ukraine, dozens of orphaned children have found refuge and a new sense of belonging within the walls of Russian Orthodox monasteries.
One such monastery is the renowned Trinity-Sergius Lavra, located just outside Moscow. Here, a group of 30 children from the war-torn Donbas region have been welcomed with open arms, given a new home, and introduced to the teachings of the Orthodox faith.
These children, many of whom witnessed unspeakable horrors during the conflict, have found solace and a sense of peace within the monastery's hallowed halls. The monks and nuns have embraced them as their own, providing them with love, support, and a spiritual foundation that had been shattered by the war.
