Rocket alert in Oryol region, Russia, again
Russian military announced on Friday that the air defense system had repelled a Ukrainian drone attack in the Oryol region, Russia.
The statement from the Russian Defense Ministry said that "at about 04:00 Moscow time, the air defense system of the Russian Aerospace Forces repelled an attack by three Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles on the military infrastructure in the area of the settlement of Staraya Togul, Oryol Region," as quoted by TASS, a state-run Russian news service.
The ministry did not specify what type of drones were involved in the attack, but said that all three were destroyed.
This was the second rocket alert in the Oryol region in less than a week.
On Wednesday, the Russian military announced that it had repelled a Ukrainian drone attack on a military airbase in the region, and that one of the drones had been shot down.
The Ukrainian military has not commented on either of the alleged attacks.
However, Ukraine has previously used drones to carry out attacks on Russian military targets, including in the Oryol region.
In April, a Ukrainian drone struck an oil depot in the city of Bryansk, which is located about 100 kilometers from the border with Ukraine.
The attacks come amid heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine, which have been at war since 2014.
In recent weeks, Russia has been massing troops and military equipment near the Ukrainian border, leading to fears that Moscow may be planning to launch a new invasion of Ukraine.
