Sergei Pesyakov's departure from Rostov was a mistake, says Logashov
Rostov coach Valeri Karpin has admitted that allowing goalkeeper Sergei Pesyakov to leave the club on loan was a mistake.
Pesyakov, 30, joined Rostov in 2017 from Tom Tomsk and quickly established himself as the club's number one goalkeeper.
He made 90 appearances for Rostov in all competitions, and was part of the team that won the Russian Cup in 2019.
However, Pesyakov lost his place in the team last season following the arrival of Nikita Medvedev from Lokomotiv Moscow.
He was subsequently loaned out to FC Khimki in January 2022, and has since made 20 appearances for the Nizhny Novgorod-based club.
Speaking to the press after Rostov's 2-1 defeat to Spartak Moscow on Sunday, Karpin said that he regretted letting Pesyakov leave.
"I think it was a mistake to let Sergei go," said Karpin.
"He is a very good goalkeeper, and he would have been a valuable asset to us this season."
Karpin's comments come as Rostov are struggling for form in the Russian Premier League.
The club are currently 13th in the table, and have won just one of their last five matches.
Pesyakov, meanwhile, has been in good form for Khimki.
He has kept seven clean sheets in his 20 appearances for the club, and has helped them to record some impressive results against top-flight opposition.
It remains to be seen whether Pesyakov will return to Rostov at the end of the season.
However, Karpin's comments suggest that the club would be keen to bring him back if he is available.
