Shanghai Shenhua F.C. parts ways with manager Leonid Slutsky

The Russian manager leaves the Chinese Super League club after just over a year in charge

Shanghai Shenhua F.C. have announced the departure of manager Leonid Slutsky after just over a year in charge of the Chinese Super League club.

The Russian manager, who previously managed CSKA Moscow and the Russia national team, joined Shanghai Shenhua in November 2021 and led the team to a sixth-place finish in the Chinese Super League last season.

However, Shanghai Shenhua have struggled for form this season, winning just three of their first 11 league games, and Slutsky has paid the price for the team's poor results.

Assistant coach Mao Yijun will take over as caretaker manager while the club searches for a permanent replacement for Slutsky.

Shanghai Shenhua are currently 13th in the Chinese Super League table, just three points above the relegation zone, and will be hoping to improve their form under their new manager.

Slutsky's departure from Shanghai Shenhua is the latest in a series of managerial changes in the Chinese Super League, with several other clubs also parting ways with their managers in recent months.

The Chinese Super League is one of the most competitive leagues in Asia, and clubs are often quick to make managerial changes in order to improve their results.

It remains to be seen who Shanghai Shenhua will appoint as their next manager, but the club will be hoping that their new boss can help them to improve their form and challenge for a place in the top half of the table.
