At Least 580 injured, Two killed after Typhoon Kong-rey batters Taiwan
At least Two people have died and 580 were injured after Typhoon Kong-rey battered Taiwan on Saturday, the Central Emergency Operation Center said. Four others are currently missing as rescue workers search through the wreckage.
The storm made landfall in the southern county of Pingtung at around 3 a.m. local time, bringing with it strong winds and heavy rain.
Typhoon Kong-rey wreaks havoc across Taiwan
The typhoon caused widespread damage, with trees uprooted, power lines downed, and buildings damaged.
The storm also caused flooding in several areas, including the capital, Taipei.
More than 1.7 million households were without power at the height of the storm, and over 200,000 homes were damaged.
The government has deployed more than 10,000 military personnel to help with the cleanup and recovery effort.
