The storm left a trail of destruction in its wake, damaging homes, businesses, and infrastructure. According to the Central Emergency Operation Center, more than 500 people were injured, including 11 who are in serious condition. The majority of the injuries were caused by falling trees and debris.
One person was killed when a tree fell on their car in the city of Taipei. The victim has not yet been identified.
The storm also caused widespread power outages, affecting more than 2 million homes and businesses. The Taiwan Power Company said it was working to restore power as quickly as possible, but it warned that it could take several days to complete the repairs.
The storm is now moving away from Taiwan, but it is still expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the island for the next few days. The Central Weather Bureau has issued a warning for heavy rain and flooding in the northern and eastern parts of the island.
Residents have been urged to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Schools and businesses have been closed in the affected areas.
