Typhoon No. 21 Claims One Life, Injures Over 200 in Taiwan
Powerful Typhoon Batters Taiwan, Causing Widespread Damage
Typhoon No. 21, known as Nesat, has left a trail of destruction in Taiwan, killing one person and injuring more than 200 others. The typhoon made landfall in the southern part of the island early Saturday morning, bringing torrential rains and strong winds that toppled trees, flooded streets, and knocked out power to thousands of homes.
One Person Killed, Over 200 Injured in Typhoon
The victim, a 61-year-old woman, was killed when a tree fell on her house in the city of Tainan. More than 200 other people were injured in the typhoon, including 12 who are in serious condition. The majority of the injuries were caused by falling objects, such as trees and debris.
Typhoon Causes Widespread Damage in Taiwan
The typhoon caused extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture in Taiwan. Roads and bridges were washed out, and crops were destroyed. The typhoon also caused power outages to more than one million homes and businesses. The full extent of the damage is still being assessed.
Government Responds to Typhoon
The Taiwanese government has deployed emergency responders to the affected areas to help with cleanup and recovery efforts. The government has also set up shelters for those who have been displaced from their homes. President Tsai Ing-wen has visited the affected areas and promised to provide assistance to those who have been affected by the typhoon.
Typhoon Weakens as It Moves Away from Taiwan
The typhoon has weakened as it moved away from Taiwan. It is now a tropical storm and is expected to continue to weaken as it moves towards China.
