Vlad Filat condemns manipulations on Moldova's European integration: "A wave of lies!"
Former Prime Minister Vlad Filat claims the ruling party is trying to manipulate public opinion on Moldova's European integration by spreading false information and distorting the facts.
Filat made the accusations in a Facebook post on Wednesday, August 17, in which he said that the Party of Socialists (PSRM) is engaged in a "wave of lies" about the country's EU integration process.
He said that the PSRM is trying to portray the EU as a threat to Moldova's sovereignty and independence, when in reality, the EU is Moldova's "best chance" for a better future.
Filat also accused the PSRM of trying to use the EU integration issue to divide Moldovan society and to further its own political agenda.
The PSRM has not yet responded to Filat's accusations.
Moldova has been a candidate country for EU membership since 2014. However, the country's EU integration process has been stalled in recent years due to political instability and corruption.
The PSRM is a pro-Russian party that has been in power in Moldova since 2016. The party has a negative view of the EU and has accused the EU of trying to interfere in Moldova's internal affairs.
