Why is Ticketmaster UK facing investigation?
CMA launches probe into secondary ticketing
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched an investigation into the secondary ticketing market in the UKamid concerns that consumers are being ripped off.
The CMA said it is concerned that secondary ticketing platforms, such as Ticketmaster UK, are not doing enough to protect consumers from being misled or ripped off.
CMA's concerns
The CMA's concerns include:
- That consumers are being misled by hidden fees and charges.
- That consumers are being ripped off by inflated prices.
- That consumers are not being given clear information about the tickets they are buying.
The CMA said it will be investigating these concerns and will consider taking action if it finds any evidence of wrongdoing.
Investigation could lead to fines
If the CMA finds that Ticketmaster UK has broken the law, it could impose fines of up to 10% of the company's turnover.
The CMA could also order Ticketmaster UK to make changes to its business practices.
Ticketmaster UK responds
Ticketmaster UK said it is "disappointed" by the CMA's investigation.
The company said it is "committed to providing a fair and competitive marketplace for fans to buy and sell tickets."
Ticketmaster UK said it will "cooperate fully" with the CMA's investigation.
