Neymar to miss rest of the year for Brazil
Injury rules star out of friendlies
Neymar will miss the rest of the year for Brazil after suffering an ankle injury in training, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has announced.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward sustained the injury during a training session with the Brazil squad on Monday and was forced to withdraw from the team's upcoming friendlies against Senegal and Nigeria.
The CBF said in a statement that Neymar had undergone an MRI scan, which confirmed the extent of the injury.
"The examination showed a ligament injury in the ankle," the statement said.
"The player will remain under observation and will start physiotherapy immediately."
The injury is a blow to Brazil, who are preparing for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Neymar is one of Brazil's key players and his absence will be a major setback for the team.
The CBF said that it will continue to monitor Neymar's condition and will provide updates on his progress.
Neymar's injury is the latest in a long line of setbacks for the Brazilian star.
He has been plagued by injuries throughout his career and has missed several major tournaments as a result.
The 30-year-old forward will be hoping to make a full recovery in time for the World Cup, which begins in November.
