Promising Rostov stuns Dynamo, grabs first win of MIR RPL season
Komlichenko strike earns three points for visitors
FC Rostov clinched their first victory of the 2023-24 MIR Russian Premier League (RPL) season with a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over FC Dynamo Moscow at the VTB Arena on Saturday.
Rostov started the match brightly and were rewarded for their attacking intent when Nikolai Komlichenko fired them ahead in the 24th minute. The hosts rallied late in the game but failed to find an equalizer as Rostov held on for a crucial three points.
Komlichenko's early strike proves decisive
Rostov came flying out of the blocks and created several early chances. Komlichenko was at the heart of their attacking play and he duly delivered the opening goal.
The forward latched onto a through ball from Aleksandr Silyanov and raced clear of the Dynamo defense. With just the goalkeeper to beat, Komlichenko kept his composure and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Dynamo's late rally falls short
Dynamo responded well to going behind and gradually began to assert themselves on the game. They created a number of chances to level the scores, but Rostov's defense held firm.
In the end, Rostov's early goal proved to be the difference as they secured their first win of the season. The victory lifts them to 10th in the table, while Dynamo remain in 13th place.
