Shanghai Shenhua Dropped to Second Place Following Defeat with One Match to Play
Early Goal Not Enough for Shenhua as Beijing Guoan Take Initiative
Beijing Guoan has taken the lead in the Chinese Super League title race following a 3-1 victory over Shanghai Shenhua in the penultimate round of the season.
Shenhua enjoyed the perfect start and went ahead after just four minutes through Christian Bassogog.
However, Beijing hit back quickly and leveled matters in the 12th minute courtesy of Zhang Xizhe.
Second-Half Strikes Seal Shenhua's Fate
The home side was not to be denied and turned the match on its head just after the hour mark when Cedric Bakambu found the net.
Bakambu completed his brace and put the game to bed in the 87th minute to seal the victory for Beijing.
Shenhua's defeat means that they now need to beat Hebei FC in their final match and hope that Beijing fail to win at Dalian Pro to have any chance of winning the league title.
